Loving everything is fairytale stuff. If you decide to spend a lifetime with another person, there will be things about them that irritate you. You will irritate them back. Such is the nature of human beings. Under normal circumstances, irritations remain irritations and don't escalate into love killers. What matters is the level of irritation.

There are some irritations that become deal breakers after a time. They tend to be small, deeply personal things. My last husband was the most negative person I ever met. When I married him, I thought he just had a cynical attitude toward life. I wasn I wasn't even irritated at first. But, after fifteen years of him not being capable of agreeing with me that it was, in fact, a beautiful day, I realized I couldn't live with it anymore.

Every time we got into the car to go anywhere, he would point out something about the day that rendered it dismal and disappointing. The practice went from being irritating, to frustrating, to dismaying, to so depressing I had to leave. It seems like such a small thing on the face of it. But, it wasn't. Once, he told me that the street lights on our block were not high enough. If we went out to eat at a small restaurant, he would wonder aloud why the owner wasn't more ambitious.

Why the owner didn't buy the business next door and expand into the space. If we went to a big restaurant with more than one location, he would wonder aloud how the owners could destroy their integrity by expanding.

He did this about everything. It was like being gaslighted. Whatever we did, wherever we went, everything in our environment was subpar, a bad decision on somebody's part, or a horrible outrage to his intelligence, even if it were a complete contradiction to something else he had said the day before. After fifteen years, I'd had it. Anyway, it doesn't sound like much on paper, but it ended up being everything.

I could have put up with sloppiness forever. Or not letting me hang any art I chose in our house. But, telling me every single day that all of creation sucked turned out to be the irritation I couldn't stand. So, you don't have to love every quirk. It doesn't mean that your love for this person isn't real or valid. We can put up with a lot out of love, the flip side being somebody putting up with our quirks in return.

If you accept the flows, you will definitely live the life for him. He is not that good in expressing his feelings in words, but his gestures say how much he loves me and needs me every second.
