The composer, Charles C. Converse, was an attorney who practiced law in Erie, Pennsylvania. Many of his musical works were performed by leading orchestras and choirs of his day, but he is best remembered today for this simple tune. Ira D. Piano solo by Rick Betts with on-screen lyrics. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer! Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer. Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there. This is one of my favorite hymns!

So much sweetness comes from those who trust the Lord in sadness and loss. Thanks for the printable! My daughter 13yo has been insisting on Christmas music since August. Its a very, very emotional song Whenever I am broken and going through the deepest sorrowful valley, I sit in the room all by myself and with tears flowing down my cheeks, I sing this song.. I get comfort from Jesus so much after that.. Thank You my Lord. You are there for me always when all leave me and none around to lean upon in the world

HYMN: I HAVE FOUND A FRIEND IN JESUS – By Charles W. Fry

The great American evangelist Dwight L. Moody incorporated this song in his sermons, writings, and teachings. This caused many people to believe that the song is an American hymn. Not so. It was written by an Irishman in Canada. One Hundred fifty years ago two businessmen stood on a Port Hope, Ontario street corner as a little man carrying a saw walked by. I wish I could know his joy. He would not cut your firewood. He cuts wood only for the financially destitute and for those who are physically handicapped and cannot cut their own firewood. That young woodcutter was named Joseph Scriven.

The Lily of the Valley

The lily of the valley is a gospel standard hymn which appeared in almost all protestant hymnals. It was written by Charles W. Fry during one of his performance for the Salvation Army. He and his family were members of the Salvation Army organization owned by William Booth which then was in crisis.

Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore, Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal. Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face, Where rivers of delight shall ever roll.

Fry For a long time, I had thought this hymn, recognised by. I knew the song as a child. I probably heard it from my mum, a Baptist adherent. And if you want the children to learn something quickly, teach their mothers.
