man command in Linux with Examples
I recently tutored a friend in C coding. Fortunately, there are some easy man pages that can be installed in Ubuntu that offer helpful information that I was able to use to help refresh my memory. These man pages are easily installed by installing the manpages-dev package. You can install this package via Synaptic or directly on the command line.
I like the command line method personally, so I ran sudo apt-get install manpages-dev from the command line to quickly install the package. For each function, it shows the valid syntax as well as what library is required to make use of the function. To access any of this information, simply run man [function or library name] such as man stdio.
It is a general use Linux development suite of man pages. For a full list of what is installed, check out the file list. Did I help you? Send me a tip. Name required. GNU find searches the directory tree rooted at each given starting-point by evaluating the given expression from left to right, according to the rules of precedence see section OPERATORS , until the outcome is known the left hand side is false for and operations, true for or , at which point find moves on to the next file name. If you are using find in an environment where security is important for example if you are using it to search directories that are writable by other users , you should read the "Security Considerations" chapter of the findutils documentation, which is called Finding Files and comes with findutils. That document also includes a lot more detail and discussion than this manual page, so you may find it a more useful source of information. That argument and any following arguments are taken to be the expression describing what is to be searched for. If no paths are given, the current directory is used.

It is similar to more , but has the extended capability of allowing both forward and backward navigation through the file. Mark Nudelman initially wrote less during —85, in the need of a version of more able to do backward scrolling of the displayed text. The name came from the joke of doing "backwards more. A similar saying is that " less is more , more or less". A few options vary depending on the operating system.

The find utility shall detect infinite loops; that is, entering a previously visited directory that is an ancestor of the last file encountered. When it detects an infinite loop, find shall write a diagnostic message to standard error and shall either recover its position in the hierarchy or terminate. The following options shall be supported by the implementation: -H Cause the file information and file type evaluated for each symbolic link encountered on the command line to be those of the file referenced by the link, and not the link itself.
