Heart Of Gold actually went to No. Another noted star of the day was Carole King, whose Tapestry and Music also proved that good songs simply always win the day. It kinda starts with Harvest. Despite his notorious hard-headedness, Young has always been a serial collaborator.SEE VIDEO BY TOPIC: Neil Young - A Man Needs A Maid/Heart Of Gold Suite (Live At Massey Hall-1971)

For example, Tell My Why had an extended ending with falsetto singing that made the ending so beautiful and so essential to hear or A Man Needs a Maid where he weaves the song from a opening that sounds like Like a Hurricane is about to begin to a mysterious journey where Neil weaves the song into a musical painting.
There are songs here that Neil introduced for example White Line which later became a Crazy Horse song that was rumored to be on the original Chrome Dreams in Crazy Horse form. They all have a magical feel on this album. The songs have energy, spirit, to the point I like this album better than Live at Massey Hall.
It also sounds better where the audience on Live at Massey was so loud in between songs it was bothersome sometimes. Overall, I just feel this album samples his acoustic music the best at this point in time. He extends some songs, or changes the songs, or adds a different rhythm to songs.
On a lot of the songs his singing changes from the originals just taking these songs making them fresh and new for even today. For those that have heard the unofficial album, "Joel Bernstein Tapes" this is that but with much better sound quality and a rearranged order.
For those that have not heard that unofficial album, this is not a single concert like his other archive releases but a compilation of live songs throughout his tour. This is Neil in the peak of his music career. I couldn't recommend this enough to someone who is looking for more 70's Neil Young.
There are several artists that I own everything that they release, and Neil is certainly one of them. Neil did a acoustic set first, and after a break he and the Horse did the electric set. These songs are all from his acoustic set from several different venues in February Neil is clearly high throughout, yet relaxed and comfortable.
Not enough to deduct a star from my rating, but it did effect my first impression slightly. Although this release lacks the feel of a complete performance, each song stands on its own. For me the disc gathers momentum, and the most impressive performances come toward the end. Brilliant would be an understatement. As for the CD, it sounds much better than the bootleg version of these performances, and Tim Mulligan has again created a classic sound from the digital world. UPDATE for Vinyl: Neil has always been adamant about his vinyl being the highest quality, yet recently he has apparently given up on gram and gram pressings.
That being said, this pressing is of good quality, although it has a few minor issues. Not enough to be an issue as the sound is excellent. If like me, you prefer vinyl you will not be disappointed with this double LP.
Great performances and excellent sound quality. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates Neil Young. In powerfully wasted performances spanning his whole career, this tour was exceptional even in Neil terms.
This comp does these wildly diverse tunes justice. Get this. A must have if you are a Neil Young fan. This was not a solo acoustic tour. The songs on this CD are from the acoustic portions of the shows on that tour. That aside, this is a great CD. The songs are well performed and the sound is excellent.
Live recordings of stoned stinky, hippies hootin' and hollerin' for a stoned stinky hippy Neil Young - imitating Bob Dylan. Neil Young tries his hand at playing a guitar, a banjo, a piano and a Wurlitzer-none of which he does successfully. Enough cowboy chords- on bad guitars with dirty strings-to last a lifetime. How Neil Young got famous, I'll never know.
If you ever forget how low the standards of the dirty tye-dyed hippies were, just listen to this drivel. After listening to this, I had to take a bath to wash away the hippy stink of cigarette smoke, funyuns and seven day body odor. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. Neil Young live in London
It has appeared on several of Young's live and compilation albums. The lyrics of "A Man Needs a Maid" have generated controversy due to interpretations that they are chauvinistic. Perhaps anticipating such criticism, Young stated the following at an early performance of the song at the Boston Music Hall on January 21, :. This is another new song. It's called "A Man Needs a Maid. It's just the idea that anyone would think enough to say something like that would show that something else was happening. I don't really want a maid.

A Man Needs a Maid (song)
Neil Young is a notorious control freak, as he joked during Thursday's show. And he wasn't kidding. Fans walking into the Orpheum Theatre were given a small slip of paper informing them when, exactly, they could consume a beer. During the opening act was fine, but not when Young took the stage.
That the artist is Neil Young, one of the most confounding and mysterious of rock stars, is an added bonus. Finally someone will explain what's been going on all these years! As a writer in Wired magazine puts it, Neil Young is a "folk-country-grunge dinosaur [who has been] reborn again as an Internet-friendly, biodiesel-driven, multimedia machine. Echard roots his discussion in an extensive review of writings from the rock press as well as his own engagement as a fan and critical theorist. How is it that Neil Young is both a perpetual outsider and critic of rock culture, and also one of its most central icons? And what are the unique properties that have lent his work such expressive force?
